Many times being a social event photographer would get us into some very posh situations. The problem is that as the working class, we don't really get to enjoy the amenities, but it was still fun just being there!
A guy gave us a call and asked us to photograph a surprise anniversary party for his wife. It was to be on New Year's Eve 2000 at one of the big hotels downtown, in a suite overlooking the Space Needle. They had an "Upstairs/Downstairs" kind of wedding, he coming from one of the "good" families and she, not. They had overcome these social boundaries and were very much in love. Nothing was too good for her...and for him! Because he did have such a magnanimous nature, he made sure to tell us that we were invited to partake!
What a party! Vickie had just read a magazine article about fine Ports and Madeiras, which were his favorite wines, and he had the best of the best. He also loved champagne and had cases of Dom Perignon. It was all finger food, including caviar and pates. Elegance heaped upon elegance and topped by the fireworks exploding off the Space Needle as the new millenium
was ushered in.
I wish I knew why I started telling you this...that I had a punchline like maybe the Bride's family came in like the Beverly Hillbillies and had no appreciation for the fabulous treats laid before us...but I don't. Everyone loved it! Maybe I just felt the need to brag a little.
